IAS = I Am Safe

Bengal Home Secretary Mr. Ardhendu Sen said yesterday that there was no evidence of a nexus between the Maoists and Trinamool Congress. The first thing I thought after reading the report was that the IAS officers in the state have now realised that this CPI-M government is very likely to be ousted from power at the next election. So they are busy distancing themselves from the fighting words of the CPI-M, and trying to get friendlier to the next ruling party. A colleague of mine said the same thing without being asked, so I guess my feeling was quite common, especially as the election results started coming out.

Ardhendu Sen changed his stance today by saying that `confessions’ recorded during police investigations as well as `police records’ indicated local level links between Maoists and `certain political parties’. What parties Mr. Sen? CPI-M?

What a wuss!
